Gold for The Team’s Gas Safe Register ‘Silent Killer movie’ at the IVCA Clarion Awards

The Team wins top prize in the video category at the annual IVCA Clarion Awards, held in London on 20th September.

The Team with long term client, Gas Safe Register, has won Gold in the video category at this year’s IVCA Clarion Awards, now recognised as one of the UK’s most prestigious CSR and Humanitarian Communication Awards.

This year’s Awards were reported to be one of the most fiercely contested in their ten year history, with every category seeing a high standard of entries from almost every continent of the world.

The Team’s winning film was the result of an idea they took to their client, Gas Safe Register, to create a hard hitting marketing asset which would jolt, engage and educate the hard to reach student audience about the devastating effects of carbon monoxide poisoning.  The objective was to raise awareness of the signs of unsafe gas work and the symptoms of poisoning, with the ultimate call to action to persuade viewers to check the gas safety record of their rental property with their landlord.

The result was a brave and compelling creative in the form of ‘Silent Killer movie’ promoted through a digital advertising campaign and non-skippable pre-roll on YouTube which directed students to a silentkillermovie.com microsite where they could view the what seemed to be the trailer for a horror movie  which was in fact a public safety awareness  film. As a primary audience of horror films, attracting students through the movie trailer was the ideal platform to engage them.

The movie trailer ran between October 2012 and February 2013 in North West England. The movie was viewed over 62,000 times in that period alone and due to its success was introduced as part of Gas Safe Register’s nationwide Gas Safety Week campaign.

On winning the award on Friday, Gas Safe Register’s Marketing Director, Nick Terry said:

“Gas safety can be a matter of life and death and we campaign all-year round to raise awareness and effect behaviour change amongst gas consumers. Students and young renters are particularly challenging to engage with emotionally, but it is vital that we can get our messages to them. The Team developed a brilliant creative idea that was utterly convincing in its execution and is already making an impact on improving awareness and keeping our nation safe.”

Kevin Mackenzie, MD for The Team added,

“We couldn’t be happier that the Silent Killer Movie film is gaining the creative recognition it deserves.  A creative, brave idea and a professionally created movie, cast with up and coming actors; it’s a creative asset which delivers a lifesaving message in a clear, powerful and truly effective manner.  We’d like to thank our client Gas Safe Register for being brave enough to embrace the agency idea.”
