Unlike many university courses, when you graduate with a degree in Graphic Design or Communication, you rarely get the opportunity to get a job off the bat. Internships are a crucial part of developing your skills, helping you to find your place in the industry, explore what sort of agency is right for you and it is how most of us get a foot in the door.
We strongly believe in supporting future talent and making sure design graduates have the best possible chance to leap into the creative industry. We’ve been running our design internship programme for over five years now and during that time have had the pleasure of inviting some incredibly talented graduates to work with us.
We’re always keeping our eyes open for new talent, and the Summer Degree Shows are an exceptionally busy – but exciting – time of year for students and design agencies. Graduates are looking to showcase their creativity and skills while employers are looking for some fresh thinking and ideas.
We’ve had a busy few weeks trekking across the capital visiting as many universities as possible, finishing our journey at D&AD New Blood – the creative crown jewel at the Truman Brewery in East London. We were once again impressed by the variety and quality of thinking produced by design graduates from colleges and universities across the country.
Following this, on Friday 15 July we ran our third ‘Summer Workout’ event. It’s an invitation-only, one day portfolio review where we invite along some of the most exciting and promising graduates that we spotted at the degree shows.
Almost 30 graduates responded to our invitation and turned up for Summer Workout. We had industry professionals on hand all day, giving graduates the chance to share their portfolios with us for honest one-on-one feedback on their work.
In the spirit of show and tell, we wanted to make sure that graduates had the chance to learn a little about The Team, so half way through the day we took a brief pause for a pizza lunch (a lesson in the staple diet of the creative industries) and gave attendees a brief overview of who we are, how we work, and what we do (along with a sneak peek at some future projects we were working on!)
This was followed by the chance to quiz us in a no-holds-barred ‘ask me anything’ session. We gathered a panel of willing volunteers from across the agency to help answer burning questions about how we approach a design challenge, the creative industry, us as a company, as well as field some of the difficult questions universities can’t always provide answers to!
It was a long, busy but fantastic day that excited and inspired us all and gave us a peek into the future of creative talent. A future that is looking very bright indeed.
If you think an internship at The Team is something you would like to get involved in, we would love to hear from you. Send your CV and your portfolio to us at email@example.com and we’ll take a gander.
About our intern programme
We’re proud to say we’ve been running our internship programme since 2011 and have hired a number of interns as permanent staff. We offer exciting internships for graduates and students in a number of areas across design and client services. Our paid placements support you as you gain real experience of what it’s like to work in a creative agency. Throughout your time with us you’ll be treated as a Junior Designer and join the brand and/or digital teams across a range of live projects.
